What a unique and incredible find. This fine crafted 9ct Rose Gold tortoise shell pendant and has been inlaid with a figure of a man playing lawn bowls and dates to 1911.

The level of detail in the inlay is incredible, you can clearly see the facial details, the creasing of the jacket at the elbow and the style of shoes. The care, effort and craftsmanship that went into this pendant is simply outstanding and something that is so extremely rare in modern jewellery.

The simple gold bezel doesn't distract the eye and the contrast really helps draw the focus to the inlay.

It was made by Levi & Salaman Ltd of Newhall Street in Birmingham, which was founded in 1870 by Phineas Harris Levi and Joseph Wolff Salaman. This pendant is a rare and collectable piece of Edwardian jewellery.

MEASUREMENTS: Pendant measures 22.7mm in height, 19.5mm in width and 0.92mm in thickness.
The bail measures 5.41mm in diameter and 0.95mm in thickness.

HALLMARKS: On bezel bottom rear: 'L&S' for Levi & Salaman Ltd; '9' '.375' for 9ct Gold; ⚓︎ for Birmingham; 'm' for date being 1911.

CONDITION

Extended Report - It is in very good condition given its age. There are some light surface scratches and small marks to the front of the bezel consistent with age. There appears to have been a very fine repair near the fitting at the top of the pendant evidenced with a slightly yellower colour of gold. On the rear of the pendant, there is a small amount of wear to the bezel around the 2 o’clock and 5 o’clock marks.
The hallmarks are still distinct and there is a very faint surface scratched engraving near the fitting at the 1 o’clock position which has the number ‘3327’ that has been lightly scratched out and the number ‘3365’ next to it. This is just visible to the naked eye under the right light at the right angle.
The tortoise shell is in excellent condition given its age. The front has no chips or marks to it. On the rear, there is a small thin surface chip above the bent foot and a fine thin surface chip under the bent knee. The inlay is in excellent condition with little to no signs of wear.
